I am a Computer Information Systems major at Monroe College. I graduate in August 2018. While working as a student assistant in the Registrar’s Office at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), I learned how to organize files, enter data, and how to interact with the administration, faculty, staff and students. My college experience has taught me about working in teams, exemplifying leadership and communicating clearly through roles such as being the Vice President of the National Society of Black Engineers at NYIT. Also as Vice President, I developed strong leadership skills when dealing with my organization and coordinating with other divisions within my school. During my time as Vice President of NSBE I successfully brought my club and other individuals to multiple conferences. I organized being part of many activities allowed me to determine ways of organizing tasks to ensure that I achieve my goals and deadlines in a timely fashion.
Over the years, I have made it a priority to develop my programming skills. I was first introduced to coding at a Black Girls Code workshop. The staff taught a group of students how to code in HTML. In college, I learned the basics of Java in the first two years and I taught myself Python over the summer break during my sophomore year. I have been working with Python for two years now. In the summer of my third year, I learned SQL, CSS, and more HTML than before. Last summer, I learned how to use Salesforce in a four-day boot camp. Last summer, I learned how to use Salesforce in a four-day boot camp. Currently, I am learning more HTML and CSS to create my portfolio website. I am also working on a project where collegiate students can receive sponsorship from startups and companies implementing the Salesforce platform. Keeping up with the ever changing world of technology is very important for pursuing a career in the field, so I am continuously learning and creating new projects. After college, I would like to be a software developer and a certified database administrator. Working with databases and the manipulation of them have become my passion. I get to use my creative, critical and thinking skills to develop amazing reports and projects that can build any business.
